2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed Revealed Before 2014 Paris Debut

By on 10:07 PM

Just like the rest of the Bentley lineup, the Mulsanne flagship will receive a Speed variant that boosts power and adds key exterior details. The model will make its official debut at the Paris motor show on October 2.
Bentley has fine-tuned the Mulsanne Speed with subtle changes over the traditional model. It sticks with a 6.8-liter twin-turbo V-8, although it has been upgraded to achieve 530 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque. The car achieves a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph. The engine has been tweaked to boast 13 percent better fuel economy, just as in the standard 2015 Mulsanne. Because of this change, drivers now have 50 more miles of range at their fingertips.

The new Mulsanne Speed provides more opportunities for drivers to customize their experience behind the wheel. Drivers can take advantage of a new "S" mode that maintains the engine speed above 2000 rpm so the turbochargers react more instantaneously. Four driving modes are now available, including Sport, Bentley, Comfort, and a customizable mode. This fourth mode allows drivers to individually customize steering, chassis, and engine tunes based on their personal preferences. Also, cylinder deactivation has been refined for smoother transitions between V-4 and V-8 mode.

But way before you turn on the car, the first thing you'll notice about the Mulsanne Speed is its noticeably darker exterior. Bentley has applied a dark tint finish on the car's grille, wing vents, and taillights to give off a formidable look. Four new exterior paint colors are available: Candy Red, Camel, Spectre (black with metallic accents), and Marlin (blue with a hint of green). Twenty-five colors are standard for buyers to select, and 100 are options.

To give you an idea about just how much effort goes into creating each Mulsanne, it takes 12 hours to sand and polish every car by hand. Each interior sacrifices 14 bull hides and 150 man hours, including five hours of preparing the stitching for the steering wheel. So we can expect the Mulsanne Speed to feature an uncompromising interior.

Peeking into the car reveals diamond quilted seats and panels, Bentley emblems everywhere, and other details you would expect from the automaker. It will also be the first Bentley to offer carbon fiber as an interior option. Electrically-operated tables have connections for iPads and keyboards, all fitted to the rear of the front seats. Also look for onboard Wi-Fi, a 14-speaker sound system, rear seat entertainment system with two screens, and new veneer options.

Customer deliveries of the 2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed begin this winter.
