Refreshed 2016 Ford Explorer Confirmed for L.A. Auto Show

Now in its fifth generation, the Ford Explorer has been one of the best-selling midsize SUVs since the original model debuted in 1991. The Blue Oval has confirmed that the refreshed 2016 Ford Explorer will be shown at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show next month.

While details on the refresh haven’t been revealed, recent spy shots suggest the Explorer’s front and rear end get revised styling including new headlights, grille, and fascia up front and new taillights and rear fascia around back. The refreshed Explorer is expected to adopt similar styling to the redesigned 2015 Ford Edge crossover. “The new Explorer is still the SUV America fell in love with – a vehicle built for the perfect family adventure,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president of global marketing, sales, and service, in a release. “Explorer is the foundation of Ford’s full line of award-winning utility vehicles, which is helping the Ford brand grow around the world.” In addition to new styling, the 2016 Ford Explorer will get more capability and new technology including more driver-assist technology, according to the automaker. Recent rumors suggest the 2016 Explorer will also get a new nfotainment system with tactile interface. The Lincoln MKC crossover’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 could also replace the current model’s available 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine on the options sheet. The refreshed 2016 Ford Explorer will debut November 19 at the Los Angeles auto show, but stay tuned for more info as we get closer to the show.
